Sunday Indoor Kickball: Hey! We’re the Champions…so, Ball Me, Maybe?!

Last Sunday was indoor kickball playoffs over at the Northwest Rec Center, and whether you were playing in one of the games or just came to watch, there was quite a lot of excitement to be had!

Semi-Finals

The first game of the evening had first seeded team, Supercalifragilisticexpialimiguel, playing against the fourth seeded team, Strait Ballin. There was never any doubt as to who would come out on top in this semi-final game. Supercali took Strait Ballin to town in a 12-1 win and advanced to the championship round!

Seeds two and three faced off in the second game of the semis in the closest game of the night. Ball Me, Maybe and Kick Jung Uns traded blows throughout the entire game and was tied at 9 going to the 7th inning. Ball Me, Maybe loaded the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the inning, and scored the winning run on a base hit up the middle! The number two team, Ball Me, Maybe, sent Kick Jung Uns packing and never looked back!

Championship Rounds

The Championship round was a battle between the top two teams of the season:  Supercalifragilisticexpialimiguel versus Ball Me, Maybe. The final game was very competitive with top seeded Supercali trailing most of the game. The winds seemed to change direction for them in the 5th inning when Supercali was able to get 4 runs under their belt, putting them ahead, 11-8.  Ball Me, Maybe needed to pull out all the bells and whistles if they wanted to have a chance at a sweet victory. With only two innings left, Ball Me, Maybe was able to respond with 6 runs! Ball Me, Maybe was able to come back from behind and close out a 14-11 win and hoist the championship banner!

Congratulations, Ball Me, Maybe!

Happy Hour at Little Woodrow’s!

After the playoffs, all of the teams headed over to Little Woodrow’s on Burnet to either drink their losing sorrows away or to celebrate their victory! Either way, beers, shots, and a good time was guaranteed to be found!

Indoor kickball is taking a break for a bit, but we’re kicking it outdoors for the spring! Check out AustinSSC.com for registration details and deadlines!

Sunday Indoor Kickball: Who’s Off to Play in the Playoffs?

Week Six

It was the last three games of the regular season before playoffs next week, and the top four teams have sealed their spots in the playoff brackets.

Supercalifragilisticexpialimiguel played the Ball Busters in the opening game, and it was the only close one of the night. Ball Busters jumped on the lead 3-0 early in the game. Playing with only 6 people, Supercali rallied to score 4 runs in the final 3 innings. The game was tied 3-3. The 4th run was the game winner in the bottom of the 7th inning. Supercalifragilisticexpialimiguel remains undefeated going into the playoffs.
The last two games of the evening had Ball Me, Maybe? taking out the defeated Ballstars in an easy 8-0 game, and Kick Jong-Uns outplaying Straight Ballin 10-2. Both the Kick Jung-Uns and Ball Me, Maybe? easily won their games and are primed for the playoffs.

After the games, the teams met up at Little Woodrow’s off Burnet to enjoy $2 Bud Light drafts and $8 Bud Light pitchers. Show up early to the games, and stay late after for the fun! Playoffs are right around the corner!

Sunday night. Six teams. Three games. One ring to rule them all…

Not really, but it sounds catchy, right? We had a nice and easy night over at the Northwest Rec with lots of time for socializing!

Strait Ballin and Ballbusters opened the night with an exciting game. Strait Ballin kept an 8 run lead going into the final inning with a score of 9-1. Feeling like they had the game in the bag, Strait Ballin started cruising, but Ballbusters was still determined to come back from the bottom to try to pull out a win. Ballbusters were able to score 6 runs in the final inning before the final out was called. It was a valiant effort, but Strait Ballin won the opener 9-7.

Second game of the night can only be described with one word: Blowout. Great Balls of Fire brought the fire and incinerated Ballstars, 14-0. Sorry, Ballstars. Better luck next time!

Our last game of the evening earns the title “Game of the Night!” Kick Jung Uns and Supercalifrajilisticexpialimiguel played an instant classic. Both teams went kick for kick and traded 5 run innings and then the defenses locked it down. This game went down to the final inning with Supercali edging the Kick Jung Uns 7-6 in what our ASSC Official, Ted, said was “the best game of the season!” Awesome job, guys!

The excitement and camaraderie carried over from the Rec on over to Little Woodrow’s where we had awesome Austin Sports and Social Club representation! With 2 Dollar Budlights and more kick ballers than you can count on both your fingers and toes, why would you want to be anywhere else?
